To Friend, Fan Or Not….

Thank you for returning to my blog.

A few weeks ago I posted a question on Facebook about if you are fans of your client’s pages.  Some people said that they were “friends” with their clients.  I have different opinions about that.  I don’t “friend” my clients on Facebook for a few reasons, I do, however, “fan” their pages.
I don’t “friend” them because:

  • I don’t want them to see all my personal stuff
  • I don’t want them to know all my craziness (I like to keep my professional image around them); but they do see a lot of my personal foolishness, but I do believe in being  who I am and I don’t hide that.
  • I don’t want to confuse them as some may not be as tech savvy and can confuse the profile with the fan page and forward something that does not need to be forwarded to their friends.

I like to fan them so that I can make sure that the posts are getting posted and that I can see if others are responding to posts so I can alert my clients that there are responses.  I like to get an idea what others do because sometimes I feel bad when I tell my clients that I don’t “friend” them but I believe there is a boundary between work and play.  I do have my profile friends separated out into “lists” and I do exercise the right to post some things to only my “personal” or “professional” (and when I say professional, I mean my VA co-harts and my social media peeps.).

One Response to To Friend, Fan Or Not….

I just let it all hang out and am friends and fans with all my clients. I figure if they don’t like the personal side of me maybe I don’t want to be doing business with them. But I know, I’m weird. Also, it gives us a chance to get to know each other better.

I do see your point about confusion. I use my logo on my fan page and my personal photo on my personal page. Plus, the names are different.
