How are you found if you don’t tell them where to find you?

Thank you for returning to my blog.

Last night I was working and decided to take a break and check my email.  As I go through, I saw an email newsletter from a friend and fellow colleague and thought that I could read it real quick.  As I am going through it I am thinking, “hmmm, I wonder how her social media icons look in here”, so I am scrolling and then I think “where are they?”, she must have forgotten to put them in.  So I message her and as we are talking she says this to me “it never occurred to me to put them in there”.  I felt like a ton of bricks hit me…then I got the building thrown on me “you didn’t tell me to put them in there”.  I didn’t? Was I supposed to have?  Should I have to?  I then asked, they are in your email right?”  I was deeply wounded to know that “no, I didn’t know to” was the answer.  OUCH…how are you going to get found if you don’t tell others where to find you?  How to get found in Social Media

Lesson learned for me and her!  Social media is EVERYWHERE…where should you be posting your social media sites? EVERYWHERE!!  Put them in your newsletters, your email signatures, business cards, your resource boxes or author’s boxes in your articles, OTHER social media sites you belong to.  How do you expect to get found if you don’t tell everyone everywhere you go how to find you?

So for those that think I have never told you:  Your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. should be posted EVERYWHERE if you want to be found there.

Cool Tools for Your Updates

I was looking around the web and I ran into a cool and fun tool that I have used on occasion with my updates on my Facebook Profile. Below are 2 of them.

It is the Flip My Text site.  This site will flip what you write so it is upside down, reversed, and a host of other ways.  Check out the sample below:

The other one are the symbols.  The symbols can be done by (make sure your num lock key is pressed) pressing “alt” and a number on the numlock pad and letting go.  You will get a wide range of stuff.  Below I have some examples that you can just copy and paste from, if you don’t want to make your own.

and there are a HOST of others.  You can spend hours at your keyboard typing them out.  You can also search the internet and find a HOST of websites that have them up there, so you can just copy and paste.  You can even download these in a PDF from here if you like.  (I will be updating the PDF to include more during the week.) Just bookmark this blog for easy reference.

How to “Share” a YouTube Video on your Facebook Wall

Recently, I was asked “How do you share a video you found on YouTube on your Facbook”.

The steps are easy.

1.  When you find a YouTube video you want to share on your wall you do the following:

2. You will see the above picture BELOW the video you are watching on YouTube.  You click the “Share” button and the following box will show (if it is not already):

3. Once you click on the Facebook button, the Publish box in Facebook pops up:

I hope this helps…let me know if you have issues with it.

How to manage your lists in Facebook

On occasion you may want to move people from one list to another.  There is a really simple way of doing this.  Go to on the right top and click on “Account”. You will see a drop down box like the one below.

You then want to click on “Edit Friends”, which should be the first option. You will get a page that when you look on the left side, has “Search Friends”, “All Connections”, etc.  If you look down to the next section it is called “Lists”.  Click on the option called “Friends” (should be the first option), shown below.

This will bring up all your friends and on the right (in the middle of the screen, sort of), you can see where you can click on the words “Add to List” or if you have people into lists already, it will tell you how many lists they are in.  You can either click on the one with the check to remove them from that list and click on a list name to add them to another list.  As you can see in the box on the right, you can also create new lists here, too.

This is just a really quick (not proofed for grammar) tip to show you how to manage your friend lists on Facebook.  If you have other questions or comments, leave a comment below!

5 Ways To Improve Your Blog Today

blog, grow readership, how to enhance blogsThe voice behind a blog always wants to be heard. Without an audience, it can be discouraging for a blogger to continue writing. With a new blog launching every second, it’s important to pay attention to your own blog. The following are 5 easy ways to improve your blog today. Follow these key elements and you will see a growth in your readership.

1. Get a domain name!

Changing your blog address to a domain name with a popular extension is very important. Having a domain name gives you a professional edge over your competition. It’s much easier for blog fans to remember a .com extension versus trying to find your blog on Google. Branding your blog with the right domain name will create the buzz your blog needs. Blogger and WordPress offer their bloggers an opportunity to purchase a domain name for an inexpensive annual fee.

2. Make it easy for readers to subscribe.

There are too many blogs that are not using the subscriber feature. If you are one of them, turn it on! You want to make sure your blog readers have the opportunity to subscribe to your blog before they leave. You need to offer them a subscription by email or by a RRS feeder. Give readers a choice of how they want to keep up with your blog. Always place your subscriber feature where it is visible for readers. You should place this feature at the top of one of your sidebars and underneath each blog post.

3. Sign up for Blog Catalog today.

This is a fantastic online network of bloggers around the world. You will need to sign up as a new user and give details about your blog. It only takes a short waiting period to find out if your blog has been approved. Once approved, there will be a screenshot of your blog under the blog category you chose. Fill out your profile and start connecting! It’s an interactive website where you can see who visited your blog, made profile comments and so much more.

4. Clean up your blog template.

Many bloggers install new templates they find on the internet which can sometimes turn into a mess. Some of these templates are not coded properly and once installed can change the alignment of your blog. There are many bloggers who find themselves with the third column of their templates underneath their blog posts! You always want your blog template to work with the type of blog you run. Choose a blog template that is easy for your readers to navigate. If there are too many things going on, you will lose readers if they can’t make sense of what your blog is about.

5. Check out your stats!

Every blog or website should have an invisible statistic counter. You can do a search on Google for a free statistic counter. With a good statistic counter, you can see exactly where your readers are coming from. You will find out if your readers are using keywords on Google to find you or if they are finding you from another website. All of this is important information for you as a blogger. Once you know how many unique daily visitors you are getting and where they are coming from, you can place your efforts on a precise marketing campaign for your blog.
